Since my father has received his sentence, many people have beenreaching out and wondering how they can help the man who stood up for MotherEarth, Muskrat Falls (Labrador), us and our rights. People are wondering wherethey can email money and are wanting to plan fundraisers, I thought thatsetting up a page like this would make it easy for people to contributefunds.
If anyone is interested in having a fundraiser please email me [email protected], you can deposit the funds from the fundraiser herebut we'd like to keep track of everything that is going on. This way we canalso recognize contributions.
My family and I are so grateful to each and everyone of you for your kindwords and your tremendous support, your generosity will not beforgotten. Your actions are sending a loud message to those who stand todestroy Labrador and our planet as a whole. In our own ways, we are allstanding up to say enough of being silenced while the lands, waters, and way oflife we hold dear are threatened. As my father would say, "There is noPlanet B".
As a thank-you to each of you for donating, we will be having a draw witheveryone's name and the person picked will receive two free nights at theAlexis Hotel in Port Hope Simpson with complimentary breakfasts. The firstmorning will be spent dogsledding near Port Hope Simpson and on the second morningyou'll be treated to a Labrador Boil-up.
I'd like to thank everyone in advance, you're all truly amazing.

Here are some words from my father, Dennis Burden, on the day he wentto receive sentencing in provincial court (Happy Valley-Goose Bay) on January8, 2014:
"Right from the start I knew there was something really really wrongwith this Muskrat Falls (Labrador) project.
I have spent hundreds of hours searching the better way. I have watched themspend a fortune on an unsanctioned project. I have heard the NL Premier lieabout how green and needed this hydro dam is. Our experts, our experts, ourexperts! So I check to find SNC Lavalin (banned from any World Bank project for10 years and also from bidding on Canadian international development agencycontracts among other things) then there is Manitoba Hydro (MHI) who was 85 %over on their last project.
I have seen the "power is in our hands" advertising (remember thatold guy and his grandkid looking out over our perfect green future) I have readabout methyl mercury and its dangers, Agent White, and that some dams are worsethan plants the same size running on fossil fuels ( methane gas ).
So I begin to wonder what’s wrong for the people to stand by and watch thisterrible assault on our habitat and democracy. They don`t know or they believeour government? I ask myself "How to spread the message? What to do? Howto kill the monster?" Discouraging much? Yup! So I figured if we, the oneswho have studied this project, could just inform the folks about what’s goingon here they would stand and say no.
Every little protest, picture, and post would tweek someone’s interest. Themedia has been silenced. The Public Utilities Board (PUB) perhaps (oh no theywere kicked outta the equation months ago). Environmental laws (nope, they gotthe boots too). Then there is Newfoundland & Labrador’s (NL) Bills 60 &61 and changes to Bill 29 that drops NL below some third world countries in itslaws of disclosure. I felt, and still do, that I owe it to my kids’ future totry and stop the Muskrat Fall project. In hind sight maybe attacking thecorrupt pole was not such a great idea (I remember my girlfriend walking in theroom with tears saying I wish you never had to do this) but that was it, I hadno choice. I had to.
Did it have the desired effects? No. Am I sorry? Only that it didn`t work.Would I do it again? If I thought it would stop the project - Yes.
I see all you proudly waving the Labrador flag and singing songs about"We, her strong sons and daughters". Next time you wave it askyourself "How much would you sell it for?"
You see it has to come down to the common folks. Not our Native groups. Notthe Combined Councils of Labrador. Not any of our elected officials has theballs to speak out! Maybe the ole attitude of "You’re only Labradorian anddeserve no better" has stuck on us.
"It takes years to learn how to look at the destruction of beautifulthings; to learn how to leave the place of oppression; and how to make your ownregeneration out of nothing." G Stern
So I stood there with every intention of committing this offence in hopes ofexposing a far greater crime. Hopefully someday soon the other criminalsinvolved in this slaughter will get justice delivered to them also!" - DB
